Char Dham: 4 temples (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath). 10-12 days. ₹15,000-80,000/person. 1,800 km driving. Requires extended leave. Do Dham: 2 temples (Kedarnath + Badrinath). 5-6 days. ₹8,500-30,000/person. 1,000 km driving. Fits in a week.
First-time pilgrims who want the complete experience. Those with 10+ days of leave. Families who want a thorough spiritual journey. Travelers wanting to see the full Garhwal Himalayas. People who may not return — do it all once.
Limited time (week or less). First-time visitors to Uttarakhand who want a taste. Physically less fit (fewer long driving days). Budget-conscious travelers. Those planning to return and do Yamunotri-Gangotri separately.
Yamunotri — 6 km trek to a hot spring temple at the source of River Yamuna. Beautiful but physically demanding. Gangotri — stunning temple at the source of the Ganges, road drive through dramatic valley. Uttarkashi — charming Himalayan town, Vishwanath Temple. These are beautiful but Kedarnath and Badrinath are the highlights for most pilgrims.
If you have 10 days: Char Dham (complete experience, no regrets). If 5-7 days: Do Dham (the two most impactful dhams). If 3 days: Kedarnath only (helicopter + 1 night). Can't decide? Start with Do Dham — you can always return for Yamunotri-Gangotri as a separate trip.
Both require the Kedarnath trek (16 km). Char Dham adds the Yamunotri trek (6 km) and more driving days. Do Dham is physically easier due to fewer travel days.
Not easily. The route sequence is west-to-east (Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath). Do Dham starts directly at Kedarnath, skipping the western dhams. Backtracking would add 3+ days.
Yes — about 40-50% cheaper due to fewer hotel nights (4-5 vs 9-10), less fuel (1,000 km vs 1,800 km), and fewer activity costs.
